Homeless in Pinecrest

Last year after Brent's Nana died we decided to renovate her house ( nice word for run down trailer) and live there while saving for a house. Well , as soon as it was all done and the money was " saved" by doing the work ourselves with the help of Daddy , Brent lost his job ... again. It is no secret that these are hard times for a lot of people and there are plenty of others that have lost their jobs over the past two years, but OYE! So , what I'm getting at is there hasn't been a whole lot of "saving" for the new house going on. Well, last week , just as Mom and I were finally getting things really organized the way I wanted them , it happened. The floor started to sink in all over different parts of the house. You have GOT to be kidding me! OK , so we called the insurance company and the sent a inspector and adjuster out to check things out. Well , the verdict is that the house is worth pushing over and that's about it. There has been a leak in the roof pouring water down the center wall and ruining the floors. We couldn't see any evidence of this leak because we put dropped ceilings in to cover up old water damage. Even better news... there is mold everywhere. Brent and I lost a whole clothes closet worth of clothes( thank God he has enough to cloth himself and a third world country:-D ) .So here we are... at my parents house again! There really must be a limit as to how many times you have to move back in with your parents . Almost 30, 26 and three kids , living with good ole Mom and Dad. Does it sound pitiful yet? The good news is think Brent found us somewhere to go that might allow us to eat and pay rent! We will know in the next few days the details . PRAY! This is me , depressed , tired and homeless in Pinecrest.

I will try to spare you the "Job's Miserable Comforter" speech and just say, Thanks be to God that your parents are there for you and that you didn't have to sustain sickness from the growing mold! Lots of prayers are going your way and I am secretly wishing that Carlton Arms ends up being your new dwelling! ;)

I will never forget the Saturday night our phone starting ringing. This night is etched into my memory and has forever changed my outlook on life. It was around 11:30 and it goes without saying that it’s never good news when the phone rings that late. I cautiously answered the phone, a familiar voice was on the other end, “Hey Matthew, it’s Mark (our home builder), I just wanted to let us know that you house has burned down. I’m here with the fire marshal and he believes it was arson.” At first I honestly thought Mark was joking because we are close friends and he is a practical joker. Then Mark said the house was totally destroyed and suggested that we not even go by because it’s too depressing.

Then the gut retching pains of reality slowly began setting in. My heart felt as big as the earth pounding like an erupting volcano in my chest. Kerry and I had been building our house over the last several months and we were only a few short weeks away from moving in. At that frozen moment in time the thought of starting completely over seemed like more than we could possibly bear. Needless to say we did not get very much rest that night.

The next morning at church, Elder Michael Gowens was our visiting minister. When he got into the stand he opened his message with Proverbs 24:16 “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.” I was trying to keep myself from leaping out of my pew. What an awesome Lord we have. At that moment I had never felt His presence more. I remembered Elijah and the Lord’s “still small voice”. The Apostle Paul wrote, “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;” (2 Corinthians 4:8-9).

Do not forget the Lord is with us and that He will take care of us. We will be praying for you guys – hang in there!!!

Thank you so much for your encouragement Bro Matthew. My G-ma always says the great thing about dark times is you can see the light so well when it finally comes. We have all been through our dark times , but I am thankful the Lord told his that He is our light.
